QTIC & UQ School of Tourism Breakfast

On 29 June 2010 QTIC and the University of Queensland's School of Tourism hosted an industry breakfast with Tourism Australia's Managing Director, Andrew McEvoy.  The breakfast was attended by 110 tourism industry representatives who heard Andrew outline Tourism Australia's new campaign 'There's Nothing Like Australia', and discuss his aspirations for the organisation. A special thanks to QTIC Corporate Partners: Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre and TPD Media for their support!

Strategic Tourism Forum: Ideas for the future

On the 13th November 2009, QTIC held a Strategic Tourism Forum at Sofitel on the Gold Coast where delegates heard from guest speakers Paul Scurrah, Executive General Manager of QR Passenger Pty Ltd; Mathias Friess, General Manager Sales for Virgin Blue; and Bob East, CEO of Mantra Group. 

An interactive workshop followed, allowing the guests to discuss and identify ideas and priorities for the future of tourism in Queensland over the next 3 years. To view the complete list of ideas generated please click here.

QTIC will maintain an action agenda, incorporating the suggestions made and will also progress the ideas through similar workshops held in regional destinations in 2010.

Martin Ferguson Luncheon

On 5 Dec 2008 QTIC hosted an industry luncheon with Federal Tourism Minister Martin Ferguson.  The lunch was attended by 150 tourism industry representatives who heard the Minister outline his vision for tourism and discuss how the Rudd Government is responding to the range of challenges currently facing our industry.  A special thanks to QTIC Corporate Partners: Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre and Brisbane Airport Corporation for their support!

Tourism Investment Forum - Investment in Queensland's Tourism Future

QTIC hosted a breakfast forum in Brisbane on 26 Novemeber 2008 with guest speakers, Brett Pointon, The Oaks Hotels and Resorts Ltd; Michael Clarke, Jones Lang LaSalle Hotels; Grant Hunt, Anthology; the travellers' collection and Amanda Yeates from the Department.  The session was facilitated by Lisa Nixon from BBS and included a panel discussion with speakers sharing their vision regarding tourism investment in Queensland.

State of Play Consumer Trends Seminar

As part of our State-of-Play series, QTIC held a seminar on 18 July on consumer trends in tourism, featuring three well credentialed speakers.  With so many external factors working against tourism at the moment, operators need to focus more than ever on how we can provide quality services to potential visitors and how we can meet their expectations into the future.  Presentations were made by Roy Morgan Research, Tourism Queensland and IOWEU International.

QTIC Industry Leaders Breakfast - The Future of Retail Distribution

QTIC hosted 160 tourism industry leaders at a breakfast at the BCEC on 24 June 2008.  A panel of five tourism experts discussed the future of the rapidly changing tourism distribution environment and outlined the specific challenges and opportunities for the tourism industry.  We received some excellent media coverage from ABC radio, Sun Herald and Brisbane Times just to name a few!  Thanks to our sponsors, Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre (BCEC) and Hospitality Training Association (HTA).

Sir Frank Moore Dinner

The greats of Australian tourism gathered to celebrate the achievements of one of the industry's leaders and visionaries over the last 30 years, Sir Frank Moore AO.  The dinner held at Customs House was hosted by the Queensland Tourism Industry Council (QTIC) and Sustainable Tourism Cooperative Research Centre (STCRC).  

Sir Frank was awarded a certificate of Honour in recognition of his leadership, vision and outstanding advancement of Australia's tourism industry. 

The Directors of the STCRC also awarded Sir Frank as an Honorary Fellow of the STCRC for his outstanding leadership, personal contributions and achievements in the development and enhancement of scientific research benefiting Australian Tourism.

Tourism Minister's Breakfast
QTIC hosted over 250 members and industry partners at a breakfast in Brisbane with the new Tourism Minister, Hon. Desley Boyle MP, Minister for Tourism, Industry and Regional Development.  Minister Boyle gave an honest and sincere address  outlining her vision for Queensland's tourism industry.  A special thanks to our sponsors, the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre (BCEC) and the Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC).

The Hon. Anna Bligh MP - Business Leaders Luncheon

QTIC hosted 200 members and industry colleagues at a Business Leaders Luncheon at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre (BCEC) on Tuesday 27 March 2007.  The lunch was emceed by Sofie Formica from The Great South East and featured The Hon. Anna Bligh MP, Acting Premier, Treasurer and Minister for Infrastructure.   Minister Bligh outlined the Governments tourism related initiatives, including infrastructure investment and the Queensland Tourism Strategy (QTS).
