Nominees will be required to complete their nominations online using the link below:

  2. Nominees must respond to the selection criteria outlined below

    3. Outline if you are School Based Trainee or VETiS
    4. Include teachers email for endorsement

    9. Upload supporting information
  • The selection criteria response must be no longer than 1000 words each.  Responses exceeding this limit will not be able to be submitted. 
  • Any digital media or uploads provided to support your application must not exceed 2MB.  Supporting information may include;
    • Samples of industry related project work you have completed
    • Photos detailing industry related work you have completed or participated in
    • References and/or testimonials from hospitality or tourism industry workplaces
  • Documents that can be uploaded include; .jpg, .JPG, .jpeg, .png, .pdf, .doc
  • Student must upload completed signed copies of the consent form that is located in Appendix 2 - Consent Form of this document.  (Please note nominees under the age of 18 will require a parents signature)
  • Nominees are required to upload a copy of their recent resume.
  • Nominees will receive an automated notification of receipt of their completed submission via email.
  • Nominees will require either a teacher or trainer to endorse the nomination.  Students will be required to enter their teachers/ trainers email and contact number for this purpose. 
  • Students should complete and save all answers on a word document prior to completing the online application.  Students will then be able to simply copy and paste responses into the correct field in the online portal. 


To nominate, you must:

  • Be currently completing year 11 or 12;
  • Be studying VET in tourism or hospitality; and
  • Be passionate about working in the industry when you leave school.

Selection Criteria

Personal Qualities – weighted 50%


  • Comment on actions that provide evidence of your abilities and attitudes in relation to:
    • motivation & commitment
    • teamwork
    • work ethic
    • time management
    • safety
    • initiative

Knowledge & Skills – weighted 20%


  • How have you developed and applied both theory, and practical skills gained during your course?
  • Comment on your most significant training or industry related achievements during your course.

Industry Focus – weighted 30%


  • How has your training in school and vocational experience helped to develop your interest in the industry?
  • How has your training enhanced your career and study opportunities?
  • What are your future plans and career aspirations within the industry?

Judging Process

QTIC will receive all applications and once nominations have closed, judges will be provided access to their category online.  The judges will then review the relevant nominations for their category and place a score against each category.   The Judging Panel consists of six judges, two per category, from industry. The panel will shortlist finalists for each category based on completed submissions.

Shortlisted finalists will be invited to attend a Skills Test Day held on Monday the 2nd July 2018.  The location for the Skills Test Day will forwarded to the finalists closer to the date.

This will consist of an interview, theory test and practical evaluation.

Category winners will be announced on the night of the Salute to Excellence Awards being held on Thursday 30th July 2018.
