National Reconciliation Week at QTIC

QTIC staff held a celebratory and educational workshop as part of National Reconciliation Week 2013.  The event was organised by our very own Indigenous Champions Network Officer Rhonda Appo.

The group was honoured to welcome respected Aboriginal elder Aunty Valda Coolwell, a Goreng Goreng woman of Central Queensland.  Aunty Valda opened the workshop by acknowledging and paying her respects to the traditional custodians and elders of the land of Brisbane, the Yuggera and Turrbal people.

Staff participated in a quiz about Aboriginal history and were treated to traditional Indigenous food from Tukka Restaurant.  The QTIC team was privileged to hear Aunty Valda recount stories from her lifetime as an Indigenous woman in Australia.  She spoke about some of the challenges and personal reconciliation she has faced over the years and encouraged staff to continue the journey of reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.

The team wishes to thank Rhonda for organising the event and especially to Aunty Valda for being part of National Reconciliation Week with the team at QTIC.
