Policy submission: Indigenous Business Strategy Consultation Paper

The Queensland Tourism Industry Council (QTIC) welcomes the opportunity to provide a submission to the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet on the Consultation Paper: Indigenous Business Sector Strategy: Supercharging Indigenous Business Start-up and Growth.
The development of Indigenous tourism businesses will:
  • present our Indigenous people as the traditional custodians of Australia;
  • provide sustainable Indigenous tourism businesses and signature experiences;
  • connect mainstream tourism with Indigenous people;
  • target priority markets with experiences that match demand;
  • incorporate Indigenous culture and people in our visitor experiences to grow destination appeal.
Further, Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal cultures provide Queensland with two distinct indigenous cultures and a significant opportunity to build a strong advantage for the tourism industry over competitor destinations. This richness of cultural tourism experiences can support a competitive international tourism industry and presents significant social and regional economic development opportunities.
QTIC supports greater Indigenous engagement across the spectrum of tourism opportunities, including new business development and start-ups.
