VET Student Loans

The Vocational Education and Training (VET) Student Loans replaced the VET FEE-HELP program on 1 January 2017.

VET Student loans provides income contingent loans to eligible students undertaking VET study in approved courses https://www.legislation.gov.au/Series/F2016L02016.

To provide VET Student Loans, Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) must be an approved course provider.  Approval to provide VET Student Loans is sought through the VET Student Loans application process.  Approved RTOs will be able to offer VET Student Loans to students from 1 July 2017 onwards.

Transition arrangements for the period 1 January 2017 – 30 June 2017 have been implemented for providers who have received provisional approval to offer approved courses under the VET Student Loans program from 1 January – 30 June 2017.  Providers who have received provisional approval for the transition period will need to reapply for VET Student Loans for the period 1 July 2017 onwards unless they are listed providers.

RTOs interested in submitting an application to become an approved course provider will need to consult the Approved Course Provider 2017 Guide and Application Guide https://docs.education.gov.au/node/42206  in conjunction with the VET Student Loans Act https://www.legislation.gov.au/Details/C2016A00098  and associated rules.

Applications must be received not later than 11:59pm, Sunday 19 February 2017 to be considered.

Full details about the application process, rules and forms can be found on the Department of Education and Training’s website http://education.gov.au/vet-student-loans/vet-student-loans-applicants
