Tourism Businesses Become Social Media Savvy

Tourism businesses are becoming social media savvy through the Tourism Industry Business Capability Program (TIBCP).

The TIBCP offers complimentary workshops, run by the Queensland Tourism Industry Council (QTIC) and funded by the Queensland Government, for tourism operators to support the digital transformation of the industry.

Upcoming workshops are available in February, March and April and will cover Facebook basics, selling skills, Instagram for tourism and events, online booking basics and more.

The Facebook for Tourism and Events workshop held at the Sunshine Coast in November has proven most popular so far, providing local businesses with strategies and tools to improve their engagement with tourism consumers through Facebook.

QTIC Chief Executive Daniel Gschwind said it was inspiring to see tourism businesses making use of the digital technologies available to them.

“Consumers are using social media more and more to find information, so tourism operators can benefit from ensuring their business has a strong digital presence.

“The digital ready workshops show operators across Queensland what is possible in terms of their digital and social media use and how to implement strategies,” Mr Gschwind said.

The social media focused workshops help micro, small and medium businesses across the industry connect with their customers, maximise social media features, monitor and respond to their audiences and well as think about advertising.

Montville Grove owner Ms Tamara Large attended the Sunshine Coast workshop where she enjoyed the “comfortable surroundings with like-minded people”.

“Even if you think you have a good handle on the subject, it is good idea to attend the workshops. You never know what new things you might learn.

“There were new functions in Facebook I did not know were even there,” Ms Large said.

The workshops are also providing businesses with unique networking opportunities with others in the industry, something Ms Large was keen to be involved in.

“It is not just an event to go and learn something, it is also somewhere you meet others and trade ideas,” Ms Large said.

A calendar of digital and trade activities is available on the QTIC website. Register today to secure your place in the workshops and activities.
