Your Tourism Voice: See you at tourism’s big events
The conversations we have with industry shape where QTIC puts its focus and there’s been no shortage of important issues to take forward recently.
We recently released The Cost Cascade, putting the growing pressure of employment, insurance, energy and other operating costs firmly on the agenda. We’ve also released our Brisbane 2032 Tourism, Hospitality and Events Workforce Roadmap, setting out the action needed now to make sure our industry has the people it needs as we head towards 2032.
We’ve also been speaking up on proposed changes to Australia’s disaster recovery funding arrangements. Queensland experiences around 60 per cent of the nation’s disaster events, and we’ve made it clear to the Australian Government that changes which reduce recovery and resilience funding could have very real consequences for tourism businesses and communities when disaster strikes.
There’s plenty to look forward to as well. Our World Tourism Day Luncheon, presented in partnership with Brisbane Economic Development Agency, is coming up on 23 September, with AI and its growing role in tourism taking centre stage.
And Tourism Week is getting closer. Tickets are now on sale for three big days on the Gold Coast this November and we’ll soon be releasing the full program for the week. I’m looking forward to sharing what we have planned.
Finally, a small change to Your Tourism Voice. You told us you wanted fewer emails and we listened. From here, this newsletter will move from fortnightly to monthly. Thank you to everyone who shared their feedback. We want this to be something worth making time for in a busy inbox.
I hope to see many of you at our upcoming events.
Kind regards,
Tash Wheeler
