Queensland’s rising tourism stars supported with mentoring program

17 April 2025

Queensland’s next generation of tourism leaders have officially embarked on their career journeys, following the successful induction of mentees into the 2025 Queensland Tourism Futures Mentoring Program, delivered by the Queensland Tourism Industry Council (QTIC) in partnership with The University of Queensland.

On Thursday, over 20 mentees gathered from across the state in Brisbane for an inspiring induction day where they were warmly welcomed by their mentors and immersed in a day of industry insight and connection.

Participants toured the offices of the state’s destination marketing hub, Tourism and Events Queensland, engaged with industry icons and sector leaders, and heard from Queensland’s Minister for Tourism, the Honourable Andrew Powell.

The induction event provided mentees with invaluable networking opportunities and insights into the real-world demands and rewards of a career in tourism.

QTIC CEO Natassia Wheeler underscored the critical role initiatives like the Queensland Tourism Futures mentoring program play in shaping the industry’s future.

“As we look ahead to the opportunities of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, attracting and retaining a skilled tourism workforce has never been more important,” Ms Wheeler said.

“Supporting the next generation of leaders through mentoring is vital to ensuring our industry remains vibrant, innovative and world-class.

“We are incredibly proud to facilitate meaningful connections that will help our future leaders grow, thrive and lead Queensland’s tourism industry into its next exciting chapter.”

The annual Queensland Tourism Futures mentoring program pairs emerging tourism professionals with experienced icons to foster career development, leadership skills and long-term success in an industry that contributes over $34 billion annually to Queensland’s economy.

With Queensland on the global stage in the lead-up to 2032, programs like these are pivotal in preparing a skilled workforce and ensuring the Sunshine State continues to shine as a premier destination.

QTIC extends its gratitude to the mentors, partners, and industry champions who generously support this program and invest in the future of Queensland tourism.
