The Queensland Tourism Industry Council (QTIC) has announced the appointment of Chris Mills, CEO of Sunshine Coast Airport to the Board whilst Peter Woodward, Chair of the CaPTA Group has been reelected at its Annual General Meeting today. The appointments are set to strengthen the organisation’s leadership as the sector prepares for a decade of growth and global opportunity.

QTIC Chair Elsa D’Alessio said the appointments bring extensive industry knowledge, commercial acumen and regional insight that will support QTIC’s continued advocacy for operators across the state.

“Chris and Peter are highly respected industry leaders with decades of experience across tourism, infrastructure, transport and business development. Their expertise will be integral as QTIC strengthens its policy agenda, supports operators through ongoing challenges, and ensures Queensland’s visitor economy is well positioned for the opportunities ahead,” Ms D’Alessio said.

Mr Mills brings more than 35 years’ experience across aviation, tourism, major events and property development, with senior roles in both the public and private sectors. As CEO of Sunshine Coast Airport, he is leading significant growth projects including the terminal expansion. His previous leadership at Queensland Airports Limited delivered major connectivity and infrastructure milestones across the Gold Coast and regional airports. Mr Mills currently serves on the Boards of Events Management Queensland and the Australian Airports Association, and has held roles with Tourism and Events Queensland, Dreamworld, South Bank Corporation and Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary.

Mr Woodward is Chair of the CaPTA Group, a family-owned tourism company that has delivered tours and attractions in Cairns and Port Douglas since 1976. He also serves as Managing Director of Vehicle Dealers International (VDI), the national distributor for Yutong buses, and as Chair of Respax, a tourism software company operating across Australia and Southeast Asia. His background spans tourism operations, transport, technology innovation and industry development, including prior board service with Tourism Tropical North Queensland.

Ms D’Alessio said the QTIC Board plays a critical role in guiding the organisation’s long-term strategy, particularly as the industry focuses on workforce development, sustainable growth, regional dispersal and the opportunities of Brisbane 2032.

“The Board is exceptionally well placed to support QTIC’s work on behalf of operators across every region,” Ms D’Alessio said.
