Your Tourism Voice: Big win for regional tourism

There is no doubt it has been a challenging period for many tourism operators. However, amid these challenges, we have seen some important advocacy wins for industry, celebrated outstanding member achievements and continued investing in the next generation of tourism leaders.

It has been another productive fortnight for Queensland tourism, with several positive developments demonstrating the value of strong industry collaboration and ongoing advocacy on the issues that matter most to our members.

We are particularly pleased to see the launch of the Queensland Government, Tourism and Events Queensland and RACQ Regional Rewards campaign, an initiative that aligns with QTIC’s ongoing advocacy for targeted measures to stimulate visitation and visitor spend across Queensland.

QTIC has consistently highlighted the importance of initiatives that stimulate visitation and encourage travellers to explore more of Queensland, particularly during traditionally quieter periods. The Regional Rewards campaign represents a significant investment in driving demand and supporting tourism businesses and communities across the state.

It is encouraging to see continued recognition of tourism’s contribution to regional economies, local jobs and community prosperity. We know operators continue to face a range of challenges, and initiatives that help generate bookings and visitor spend remain an important part of supporting industry growth.

We were also proud to recently celebrate Queensland’s Top Tourism Towns and Top Tour Guide Award winners, recognising the communities and individuals who continue to deliver exceptional visitor experiences across our state. Congratulations to Stanthorpe, Airlie Beach and Toogoolawah, along with our outstanding Top Tour Guide winner, Jeb Connelly.

These awards remind us that tourism is ultimately about people, place and community pride. The passion, professionalism and innovation demonstrated by all finalists showcase the very best of Queensland tourism, and we look forward to seeing our winners represent Queensland on the national stage in Canberra later this year.

I would also encourage you to join us at QTIC’s NAIDOC Corporate Breakfast in Meanjin, Brisbane on 8 July. This year’s event will bring together an exceptional group of First Nations leaders, entrepreneurs and creatives, including a powerful panel of emerging business leaders who are helping shape the future of tourism and enterprise across Australia. It promises to be an inspiring and important conversation, and I hope to see many of you there.

Next week, I will be in Canberra continuing to represent the interests and experiences of Queensland tourism operators at a national level. As always, the most effective conversations are those informed directly by industry. If there are challenges, opportunities or emerging issues you would like me to raise, I encourage you to get in touch and share your perspective.

Finally, thank you to everyone who has renewed their QTIC membership for 2026–27. Your support enables us to continue representing industry on the issues that matter most, from insurance and workforce challenges through to demand stimulation, investment and long-term policy reform.

Your voice strengthens our voice, and together we will continue working to ensure Queensland’s visitor economy remains strong, resilient and positioned for future growth. We are proud to represent you and grateful for your ongoing support.

Kind regards,

Tash Wheeler
