Your Tourism Voice: QTIC advocates for urgent action
QTIC is advocating strongly on behalf of tourism operators as rising fuel costs and ongoing pressures push the industry toward a tipping point. We are calling for urgent government support, addressing fuel pricing issues and gathering real-time industry insights to strengthen our case.
QTIC continues to advocate strongly on your behalf as rising fuel costs and broader operating pressures place the industry under sustained strain.
What we are seeing across Queensland is clear. While some regions experienced solid occupancy over Easter, this is not consistently translating into profitability. Many operators are absorbing significant increases across fuel, insurance, energy and labour, alongside emerging cancellations and softer forward demand. Margins remain tight, and the capacity to absorb further shocks is limited.
Our advocacy is focused on practical, time-limited measures that support business continuity and protect regional jobs. We have written to both State and Commonwealth Governments calling for coordinated action, with a clear message that early intervention will reduce longer-term economic impact. This is not about subsidy, but stability.
We have also written directly to the Queensland Premier regarding fuel pricing. Queensland operators continue to face higher fuel costs than other states, impacting both business viability and destination competitiveness. This is a structural issue that requires attention.
To strengthen our case, we need consistent, real-time industry data. In partnership with Regional Tourism Organisations and industry associations, we have launched the Queensland Industry Pulse Survey. It is a short, 2 to 3 minute survey capturing bookings, cashflow, cost pressures and business confidence. These insights will directly inform our advocacy, media engagement and government discussions.
Your participation is critical to ensuring the reality on the ground is reflected in decision-making.
If there is one thing you prioritise with us over the coming weeks, please take a few minutes to complete the Industry Pulse Survey and ensure your experience is reflected where it matters most.
We also encourage you to join the upcoming online industry briefing with Assistant Minister for Tourism, Senator the Hon Nita Green. This is an opportunity to hear directly from government and ensure industry perspectives are part of the national conversation.
QTIC remains focused on delivering practical outcomes and ensuring the voice of industry is clearly heard at all levels of government, while continuing to advocate on fuel and cost pressures, make targeted policy submissions including on micromobility reforms, elevate regional industry impacts through media, and deliver workforce and capability programs on the ground.
Thank you for your continued leadership and resilience.
Kind regards,
