Connecting businesses with specialist insurance brokers
Finding an insurance broker who understands the needs of tourism and events businesses can be challenging.
In response to industry feedback, QTIC is establishing a Specialist Insurance Broker Panel to help our members connect with brokers who have relevant industry experience.
The panel will be available through the QTIC website, allowing members to find and contact suitable brokers directly.
Brokers will operate independently under their own commercial terms.
Inclusion on the panel does not constitute QTIC endorsement of their products or advice.
Who can apply?
QTIC welcomes applications from insurance brokers with specialist experience in one or more of the following tourism and events sub-sectors:
– Accommodation
– Adventure and outdoor recreation
– Events and festivals
– Caravan parks and camping
– Tour and transport operators
– Marine and water-based tourism
– Hospitality and venues
Applications must nominate individual brokers within their firms, with each broker able to nominate up to three sub-sectors.
The panel is intended for brokers with established specialist experience in tourism and events, rather than those who manage a small number of tourism clients as part of a broader portfolio.
Applications meeting the minimum requirements will be assessed against six criteria:
- Industry knowledge (30%) - Understanding tourism and events operating risks, risk management practices, accreditation and safety standards.
- Claims experience (20%) - Demonstrated experience supporting and advocating for clients during insurance claims.
- Risk management and accreditation (20%) - Ability to use business risk management and accreditation evidence when presenting risks to insurers.
- Insurer access (15%) - Access to insurers and underwriters, including for complex or hard-to-place risks.
- Industry contribution (10%) - Additional support and services offered to QTIC members and the broader sector.
- Queensland presence (5%) - Preference for brokers with an office and working presence in Queensland.
Panel participation and important information
Appointment to the panel is non-exclusive and does not guarantee referrals or business opportunities. Brokers must maintain QTIC Supplier Membership, meet eligibility and participation requirements, and undergo annual reviews.
QTIC does not provide insurance advice or guarantee broker services or outcomes. Tourism and events operators are responsible for choosing a broker that meets their needs.
Successful applicants will have their firm name, nominated brokers, specialist sub-sectors and business contact details published on QTIC’s website. Client numbers, claims examples and referee details will remain confidential.
Frequently asked questions
About the panel
What is the panel for?
Operators have told QTIC they struggle to find brokers who understand how tourism and events businesses run. The panel lists assessed specialist brokers by sub-sector so members can contact them directly.
Does joining the panel guarantee business referrals?
No. Listing is non-exclusive and doesn’t guarantee referrals or work, and members choose whether to contact a panel broker.
Will QTIC be involved in insurance advice or negotiations?
No. QTIC’s role is to connect members with brokers who have demonstrated specialist experience. All advice, negotiations and commercial arrangements remain between the broker and the business.
How long does a panel appointment last?
There’s no fixed term. Your listing continues while your firm meets the requirements and holds QTIC Supplier Membership, and QTIC reviews the panel every year, starting in March 2028.
Who can apply
What licensing and insurance do I need to apply?
Your firm needs an AFSL covering general insurance advice and dealing (or authorisation as a representative of a licensee that holds one), professional indemnity cover for the firm and each named broker, AFCA membership and a subscription to the Insurance Brokers Code of Practice. The EOI sets out the full minimum requirements.
Can I nominate more than one broker from my firm?
Yes. Firms can nominate up to five named brokers, and each broker can nominate up to three tourism and events sub-sectors.
Do I need to be a QTIC member to apply?
No. If your firm is accepted, it must become a QTIC Supplier Member before being listed on the panel.
Can I apply if my firm already has a relationship with QTIC?
Yes. Any assessor with a commercial relationship with your firm, including someone who manages a QTIC sponsorship or partnership with you, won’t see or score your application, and sponsorship or payments to QTIC don’t earn extra marks.
Costs
Is there a fee to apply or to stay on the panel?
There’s no application fee, although you cover your own costs of applying. Accepted firms must become QTIC Supplier Members before they’re listed, and membership fees apply.
Does QTIC receive commission, referral fees or other payments from panel brokers?
No. The only payment QTIC receives from listed firms is the Supplier Membership fee.
Applying
Can I ask questions before submitting my application?
Yes. Email Steve Guise, Head of Industry Engagement and Partnerships, at [email protected] by 5pm AEST, 16 December 2026.
If I ask a question, will QTIC share it with other applicants?
QTIC replies to each question by email within two business days of receipt. If the answer clarifies or adds to the EOI, QTIC also publishes the question and answer on the EOI page without identifying who asked.
Will the information in my application be kept confidential?
Yes. Only authorised QTIC staff, the CEO and the assessment panel (including one external member bound by a confidentiality deed) can access it, and if you’re listed QTIC publishes only your firm name, named brokers, sub-sectors and business contact details.
When will I find out whether I’ve been successful?
QTIC will advise outcomes in writing in March 2027. The panel goes live in April 2027, once accepted firms have completed their Supplier Membership.
Once you’re on the panel
What will QTIC expect from panel brokers?
Listed brokers take in sector information from QTIC and industry associations, present at or join at least one insurance webinar a year if asked and take part in the annual review. You must also tell QTIC within five business days if a named broker leaves or your firm stops meeting a minimum requirement.
Can I use the QTIC logo or say my firm is endorsed by QTIC?
No. You can describe your listing accurately, but you can’t say QTIC approves or guarantees your products or advice, and you need QTIC’s written approval before using its name or logo in promotional material.
Can QTIC remove a broker from the panel?
Yes, if a firm or broker stops meeting the requirements, or a complaint or regulatory action makes the listing inappropriate. QTIC will give reasons and a chance to respond before removal and can suspend a listing while it investigates a serious concern.
