Message from the Chief Executive

As the COVID-19 situation evolves on a daily basis the impacts on our industry are becoming more visible and wide-spread.  Apart from the obvious cash-flow stress that many operators have to deal with, the impact on staff is also concerning.  QTIC remains closely engaged with the Queensland Government in crafting any support measures that might make a difference.

The $27 million support package announced last week is a welcome demonstration of solidarity from the State Government.  There are other measures under consideration and we are keen to hear from industry on what government could do to make a difference to your business.

The Federal Government has remained conspicuously silent on any tourism support package and we are doing our utmost to keep the issue in front of the Prime Minister and Federal Tourism Minister.  Next week we will be in Canberra for the Australian Tourism Awards and while we like a fabulous celebration we also have serious issues to address that cannot be sorted with a glass of Champagne.

It will be tough road to recovery and we are aware of our responsibilities to our members and the industry.  By working together we can at least put ourselves in the strongest possible position to weather the situation and come back strongly.  Queensland needs a successful tourism industry.  Than you for your support.

Daniel Gschwind, QTIC Chief Executive
