Tourism in Action : A word from Brett Fraser (December)

As we wrap up the year and reflect on the last 12 months, it is remarkable to see how far our industry and tourism community has come. The approaching Christmas holiday period marks the first in two years in which Queensland’s tourism sector will be unimpeded by border closures and restrictions.

After contending with strict social mandates and snap lockdowns, the recovery of our tourism sector has been nothing short of spectacular. We owe much of this renewal to an undiminished appetite by Australians for travel. Throughout the last year, we have seen the desire to explore, to connect with community and people, and to live new experiences remain untarnished as domestic visitor spending soared. Our industry will continue to grow and thrive thanks to this irrepressible urge to travel.

While the revival of Queensland’s tourism industry is undoubtedly thanks to an increase in travel, I would like to take this time to recognise the tourism businesses, operators and employees who form the very backbone of our industry. Your resolve and determination to provide visitors in Queensland with a memorable experience has ensured the success of our industry this past year.

Despite the workforce challenges we have faced as an industry, you have ensured that kitchens remain open, rooms are available, flights are in the air, and tours and experiences are running. On behalf of myself and the entire team at QTIC, we thank you for lifting our tourism industry to new heights. You are the reason for our successes this past year.

In the coming year, I look forward to travelling into region and connecting with more of our members and supporters. We will also continue working with government, peak bodies, and stakeholders on behalf of you and your interests. The success of our industry relies on a strong collaboration between the various voices that are impacted by and affect the visitor economy.

As a member of QTIC, I thank you for not only your generous contributions this year, but for also sharing your invaluable insights and on-the-ground experiences with us. The success of QTIC in advocating for meaningful support and serving your interests is directly linked to the insights you have shared with us throughout 2022. As we undoubtedly face new challenges and opportunities together in 2023, I welcome your feedback and ideas.

Lastly, I hope you have a great festive season and a prosperous year ahead.

Kind Regards,

Brett Fraser
